The Magnatone Amp is back!
These amplifiers are made in the USA of high quality components and outstanding craftsmanship.
The man responsible for this new and exciting line of amplifiers is Ted Kornblum. Ted's relationship with Magnatone goes way back. His family owned St. Louis Music Supply, the distributor for Magnatone for most of the mid-west through the fifties and sixties.
Over the past several years, Ted has assembled a solid team of engineers, designers, and craftsman to bring back to life a fantastic line of amplifiers that, not only pay homage to the original Magnatones of yesteryear, but also to meet the needs of modern musicians. I've talked with Ted several times throughout his process of bringing these amplifiers to life. From the beginning, Ted's goals for this line of amps has been:
1) Bring back magic of the vintage amplifiers by recreating the true pitch-shifting vibrato.
2) take short-comings of the vintage amps, and make them right. The originals weren't built for overdrive and distortion, and they don't overdrive well. The old ones don't travel well, and they certainly don't stand up to a lot of road gigging.
3) Engineer, design, and build them all in the USA with high quality parts, and high quality craftsmanship.
To built a new amp accomplishing any one of these goals would be a fantastic story. To bring Magnatone back, and accomplish all three is nothing short of fantastic.
There are several models available, ranging from small studio amplifiers to professional stage models. The catalog is available at New Magnatone Amplifiers.
